Apartment front doors see heavy use, and builder-grade locks can wear out or be defeated more easily than people expect. Changing or rekeying them at the right time is one of the simplest ways to improve security.
When do you need it?
- Outdated locks: worn cylinders offer little resistance and may stop working.
- Recent move: previous tenants, friends or contractors may still hold keys.
- Lost keys: rekey so the lost key no longer fits.
- A roommate or partner moves out: control who can enter.
Rekey or replace?
Rekeying costs less and is ideal when the lock is in good shape. Replacement suits worn locks or an upgrade to high-security cylinders, deadbolts or keypad locks.
For renters
Check your lease before changing locks. Many landlords allow it with notice and a copy of the new key.
For owners and managers
We rekey units on turnover day, fit mailbox locks and can set up a master key so management can enter in an emergency. Ask about multi-unit visits.
